School Uniform

We take pride in our school and expect all children to wear our school uniform (either branded or generic items are acceptable).

School Uniform Policy

Uniform

  • Grey trousers, Grey skirt, or Grey pinafore dress;
  • White shirt or polo shirt;
  • Navy jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt;
  • Navy, Black, Grey or White socks / Navy or Grey tights;
  • Sensible Black school shoes (no trainers or boots). Sports brands with logos are not allowed (like Nike or Adidas);
  • School Book Bag - any other type of bag, including rucksacks, are not allowed.

During Terms 1, 5 & 6 (the summer), children can wear Grey shorts or a Blue/White check dress.

Long hair should be tied back. Hairbands/slides should be blue, black, grey or white and small in size.

Please ensure that your child wears clothes that he/she can change independently. Please ensure that all your child’s belongings are clearly named.

Health & Safety

For safety reasons, jewellery must not be worn to school.

Only watches and small, plain stud earrings may be worn if necessary but they must be removed for PE lessons by your child.

Children must not wear smart watches to school. If worn, staff will keep them safe and return them at the end of the school day.

Please ensure your child comes to school in a suitably warm coat during the winter months and have with them a light shower proof jacket during the summer months.

During the summer months we also ask all parents to ensure their child brings a hat to school and also has applied sunscreen before coming to school.

Should you wish your child to wear any additional item for religious reasons, please discuss this first with either our Family Support Team or our Headteacher.

All children should use the school book bag which can be purchased from TFS Schoolwear in Dartford.

For PE, children will need:

  • A PLAIN T-shirt in your child’s house colours: Egyptians - Yellow, Greeks – Green, Romans - Blue, Tudors - Red; or the school branded PE top.
  • Navy or Black shorts;
  • Plimsolls for indoor PE;
  • PLAIN Navy or Black jogging bottoms and/or sweatshirt (for outdoor PE in cold weather);
  • Trainers for outdoor PE.

Please supply a named drawstring bag for all PE clothing. These can be hung easily in the cloakroom.

Children who forget their PE kits will be monitored and a letter will be sent home. Parents of children who are regularly missing PE due to no kit, or incorrect kit, will be invited in to meet with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Swimming

Suitable swimming costumes are required during Terms 5 & 6. This includes a one piece swimsuit for girls, fitted lycra swimming trunks or short shorts for boys (not beach style), goggles (optional) and swimming hat (optional). Please ensure all long hair is tied up and absolutely no jewellery can be worn in the pool. Parents will be notified when these are required.

Hairstyles

The school reserves the right to make a judgement on where pupils’ hairstyles or hair colours are inappropriate for the school environment; however, will ensure that any such judgements do not discriminate against any pupil by virtue of their protected characteristics.

Our school champions the right for staff and students to embrace all Afro-hairstyles. We acknowledge that Afro-textured hair is an important part of our Black staff and students’ racial, ethnic, cultural, and religious identities, and requires specific styling for hair health and maintenance (The Halo Code).

Each individual pupil’s scenario will be considered where any judgements on appropriateness are to be made, and parents will always have the freedom to complain via the school’s Complaints Procedures Policy.

Pupils with long hair must ensure that this does not impede their vision, cover their face or provide a health and safety risk. We recommend long hair should be tied back and hairbands/slides should be blue, black, grey or white and small in size.

The following hairstyles are not considered appropriate for school:

  • Brightly coloured, dyed hair
  • Headwear with bold patterns or colours
  • Excessive hair accessories

If beads are worn in hair, they must be of school colours and within the braid near the scalp rather than at the ends. This is the same for hard hair bobbles.

Makeup

The school rules on makeup are as follows:

  • No nail varnish or make up may be worn
  • Temporary tattoos are not permitted

Non-Uniform Days

A non-uniform day allows a child to express his/her individuality through their attire. The expectation is for the child to wear garments that fit appropriately and are non-offensive. Any article of clothing that is deemed inappropriate, will result in the child being required to change into school uniform.

Sometimes for school trips other clothing is requested, please consider appropriateness for the weather conditions expected.
