Support for families
Our school plays a vital role in the local community and the children we support spend a huge part of their time in the school environment. As parents, we believe you play an important role in your child's education and we value your support and views.
As the school's Family Support Team, we work with families to improve and strengthen home-school links, and ensure the best possible outcomes for every child. We aim to provide an easy to access point of contact for advice and support and can advise on a range of issues, offer practical help, and wherever possible, be a friendly listening ear.
Our school runs a programme of parent courses and family workshops, where you can enjoy creative and practical activities with your children.
Support for children
As a school, we are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils. We have a supportive and caring ethos and our approach is respectful and kind, where each individual and their contribution is valued. At our school, we know that everyone experiences life challenges that can make us vulnerable and at times, anyone may need additional emotional support. We believe that positive mental health is everyone’s business and that we all have a role to play.
Our staff work to develop strong relationships with children so they can interact well with others and form positive bonds throughout their lives. We recognise that children need to feel safe, secure, and able to trust in others to be able to engage with learning and the school experience.
Referrals
We welcome referrals for support for any child who is experiencing a barrier to learning, whether this is emotional, intrapersonal, interpersonal, or educational. By addressing these barriers, we aim to help children reach their full potential, mastering essential skills for lifelong success. Through our assessment process, we aim to identify the children who have a need for support, and also develop their emotional readiness to engage in positive and supportive relationship.
An initial assessment of needs will be conducted through liaising with the child and their family and then a personalised support plan put in place, using our tier system to identify the level of support we feel is appropriate. This could include a school-based intervention or a referral to an external agency for more specialised support.
Support plans will be shared with parents and staff teams to ensure collaborative, conscious working, allowing all involved to fulfil their responsibility for supporting the whole child. Class teams are fundamental for any success and progress is reviewed against small, measurable steps which are acknowledged and celebrated by all.
Operation Encompass
The Brent School takes part in a project that is run jointly between schools and Kent Police.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced, any domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass will ensure that a member of the school staff, (DSL) known as a Key Adult, is trained to allow them to liaise with the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, while ensuring that the school is able to make provision for possible difficulties experienced by children, or their families, who have been experienced a domestic abuse incident.
We always strive to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this project is extremely beneficial for all those involved.
